COURAGE

About Us

Making Abilities Count has participated in Special Olympics since 1972. The program’s goal is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for adults with disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other athletes, and the community.

Current Special Olympic Events available for athlete participation are: Track & Field, Bocce, Bowling, Swimming, Basketball, Unified Softball, and Cheerleading.

MAC Special Olympians have been involved in community events such as the “Support our Troops” parade, Johnson County Peach Festival parade, Christmas parade, and Johnson County Fair. Every year, athletes participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run and the Polar Plunge which raises money for Special Olympics Arkansas.

MAC’s Special Olympics program currently serves 55 athletes, aged 19 to 66.
